OUT OF PLACE

2020 - 2021

'Out of Place' was created throughout the difficult times of the pandemic and the months both during the multiple lockdown periods, and the time afterwards where everyday life was still being adjusted. Similarly to everyone else, I was first shocked and panicked at the thought of being trapped inside everyday, however, quickly decided it would be a great opportuinity to focus on my photography, and reflect upon myself and have a way to express my feelings. Looking at my routine of my typical day had drastically changed before and after lockdown. I found myself feeling the smaller moments in my day had shifted to the larger tasks, such as showering, and the days began to feel repetitive. Through the lens, I documented each of these moments and made a day-to-day diary of both my enviroment and self-portraits.

Months after lockdown, the world was slowly moving back to before however I still felt a sense of being trapped in my house. The living situation was the main factor and I still could not adjust to feeling at 'home', even though for that year, it was my 'home'.

Throughout this project I have orginally set out to explore the mundane tasks and routines of the everyday as due to the lockdown, these bacame much more apparent as we were limited to doing anything else. I wanted to record the repetition of subjects and express my emotions through the images thinkng about lighting, colours shown in the frame, expression (if a self-portrait), and compositions. I wanted to demonstrate the daily activities and routines of life now that it has comprehensively changed.
